Black or greenish patches creeping across a bedroom wall, dark spotting on the ceiling after a leak, a fuzzy bloom inside the wardrobe: in Singapore's year-round humidity, mold takes hold on any damp indoor surface and slowly breaks down the material it grows on. Wiping it away with bleach lightens the stain but leaves the colony rooted in the wall, and disturbing it sends spores drifting into the rest of your home or office.

Big Red Environmental removes mold properly. We contain the affected area so spores cannot spread, strip the mold out at the source, dry and treat the surfaces, and finish with a BioProtect antimicrobial coating. As Singapore's first Total Indoor Environment Solution Provider, we run every job with in-house technicians and industry-accredited remediation methods.

What our mold removal service covers

Mold removal (also called remediation) is the controlled removal of active mold growth, contaminated materials, and the settled spores it leaves behind. It is different from a surface clean: the goal is to get the mold out of the building rather than paint or wipe over it.

  • Mold on walls, ceilings, skirting, and inside wardrobes and cabinets
  • Bathroom, kitchen, and utility-area mold driven by constant moisture
  • Growth behind and inside porous materials such as drywall, plaster, and ceiling boards
  • Post-leak and post-flood mold, where water damage has fed hidden growth
  • Mold in offices, hotels, F&B outlets, clinics, and childcare centers, handled with containment so the rest of the premises stays usable

Because dead mold and settled spores can still cause problems on surfaces and finishes, we do not just kill the mold, we physically remove it and treat what remains.

How our remediation process works

We follow an industry-accredited remediation sequence so mold is removed at the root and spores are kept from spreading to clean areas:

  • Assess the moisture source. Mold only grows where there is moisture, so we trace the leak, damp, or humidity feeding it. If the water problem stays, the mold comes back.
  • Contain the area. We seal off the affected zone with physical barriers and put it under negative air pressure using HEPA air scrubbers, so spores disturbed during removal are captured rather than dispersed through the space.
  • Remove the mold. Saturated porous materials (drywall, ceiling board, soft insulation) are cut out and bagged. Non-porous surfaces are HEPA-vacuumed and wiped down with a hospital-grade disinfectant.
  • Dry and control moisture. We dry the structure and address the humidity or leak so the conditions that invited mold are corrected, not just cleaned.
  • Protect with BioProtect. We apply the BIOPROTECTUs antimicrobial coating (EPA-registered, NSF-D2), which bonds to the surface and keeps self-disinfecting for up to 90 days.

Why killing mold is not enough

A common mistake is to spray mold with bleach, watch the stain fade, and assume the problem is solved. Bleach can lighten the surface discoloration, but on porous materials the mold's roots remain, and dead mold left in place still sheds spores and holds odor. Simply killing mold does not remove it.

Our approach removes the mold physically, captures airborne spores with HEPA filtration during the work, and then protects the cleaned surfaces. The BioProtect coating we apply is a hospital-grade disinfectant and surface protectant: it kills 99.999% of bacteria in under 60 seconds and forms a bonded antimicrobial layer that keeps working on the surface for up to 90 days, so cleaned areas are not left unprotected.

When you need professional mold removal

Small, freshly wiped spots on non-porous tile can often be handled with routine cleaning. Call us in when the situation is bigger or keeps returning:

  • Mold covering a large area, or spreading across a wall or ceiling
  • Mold that keeps coming back in the same spot no matter how often you clean it
  • A persistent musty smell that points to hidden growth behind walls or above ceilings
  • Mold after a burst pipe, roof leak, or flood, where materials stayed wet
  • Any growth in a sensitive setting such as a clinic, childcare center, kitchen, or guest-facing hotel space

For these situations, containment and proper removal matter, because disturbing mold carelessly spreads it further through the building.

Frequently asked questions

Can't I just remove mold myself with bleach?

Bleach can lighten the surface stain, but it does not remove mold from porous materials like drywall or ceiling board, where the roots remain. Wiping also disturbs the colony and scatters spores into the air, and dead mold left in place still needs to be physically removed. For anything larger than a small patch, or mold that keeps returning, professional remediation removes it at the source and contains the spores so they don't spread through your home or office.

How long does mold removal take?

It depends on how large the affected area is and how deep the mold has grown into the materials. A single room is often completed in a day, while larger jobs or hidden growth behind walls and ceilings take longer. We give you a clear scope and timeline after inspecting the site, and same-day and 24/7 response is available for urgent situations.

Will the mold come back after you remove it?

Mold returns when moisture stays, so controlling the water source is part of the job. We trace and address the leak, damp, or humidity feeding the growth, dry the structure, and apply the BioProtect antimicrobial coating to the cleaned surfaces. If an underlying moisture problem is left unresolved, mold can regrow, which is why we treat the cause and not just the visible patch.

Which areas of Singapore do you serve?

We provide mold removal island-wide from our Bedok headquarters, covering every HDB estate, condominium, landed home and commercial premises across Singapore. There is no out-of-the-way surcharge.

Do you inspect and test as well as remove the mold?

Yes. Mold removal pairs naturally with our mold inspection and indoor air quality (IAQ) testing services. We can locate hidden growth and moisture before removal, and re-check surfaces and air after the work, so you have confirmation that the area has been properly cleared.

Can you work in an occupied office or hotel?

Yes. Our containment method seals off the work zone and keeps it under negative air pressure, so we can remove mold with minimal disruption to the rest of the premises. We schedule around your operations, including after-hours work for offices, hotels, and F&B outlets that need to stay open.
